About Katie . . .
I'm all about what is most real and true in every woman, so I hope to communicate that about my life and work as well. I'll start with a little bit of who I am . . .
At a young age I knew that God was real, that He loved me, and that He loved all of His creation, including every soul whether they knew it or not. My childhood also revealed my passion for books, athletics, art, animals, and my need for solitude and stillness. I entered adulthood committed to running, writing, and finding myself elected to leadership roles that I wasn't confident in fulfilling. I even quit a few, only to label myself a "failure" - at least for a time. There were a few key women, including coaches and pastors, who saw in me what I couldn't see in myself. Their influence is truly where "Be New" began to take shape and I began to the shed the layers of my false self and discover who I am as a servant leader in Christ.
Like you, my story also contains many surprising and challenging twists, turns, and valleys . . . but GOD! I struggled with an eating disorder in high school, was married and divorced by age 22, and live with multiple sclerosis (to name a few). However, these are the plot lines that qualify me to speak life and truth over the women I come alongside. Our identity isn't in our successes nor failures, but who we are as followers of Jesus.
Today my life is full and beautiful. After several moves up and down the west coast, I now live with my husband on Bainbridge Island in Washington State, where I was raised. We have four children, all grown, and two beloved pets. I love hanging out with friends and family, teaching yoga in my community, and fulfilling my life's work supporting women like YOU.
My life's work revolves around women's wellness mind, body and soul. I have been a yoga Master Trainer (teaching teachers) since 2002, traveling to conferences, writing curriculum on everything from grief to the ministry of storytelling. At Holy Yoga Global, LLC, I was on the Core Team for 8 years as Director of Leadership Development, staffing and running Christ-centered retreats for women preparing to start their own ministries, training volunteers and managing teacher trainers. These stories are the "boots on the ground" experiences that both hardened and softened me into an "experienced" servant leader, true friend, and utterly dependent disciple. Today, in addition to leading Be New Ministries, I am a published writer, presenter for Bible Study Media, and faculty member at Living Soul Institute, as well as a member of the leadership team at my church.
In terms of certifications, I am a Certified Professional Life Coach (CPLC) through Christian Coach Institute and Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coach Federation, with additional training in Group and Team Coaching. I have an M.A. in English Literature, am an E-RYT and YACEP through Yoga Alliance. I recently completed my training in Holistic Biblical Counseling, so I can more effectively apply God's Word and scriptural principles in private and group sessions.
